Levels of Study
For students enrolled in universities, colleges, high schools, language training programs, or other academic institutions.
For students enrolling in non-academic or vocational training programs (e.g., technical courses, culinary schools).
For students participating in an approved exchange visitor program, including study-based or work-and-study-based exchange programs.
Find a SEVP-approved school and receive your I-20 or DS-2019 form.
Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee and keep the receipt for your records.
Submit the online non-immigrant visa application.
Book an appointment at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
Gather necessary documents: passport, I-20 or DS-2019 form, SEVIS fee receipt, visa application confirmation, proof of financial ability, academic documents.
Be ready to explain your study plans, financial stability, and future intentions.
Once approved, your passport will be returned with your visa stamp.
Limited to practical training only after completing their vocational program.
• On-Campus Employment: Up to 20 hours per week during study sessions.
• Optional Practical Training (OPT): Up to 12 months after completing studies (STEM students may extend up to 36 months).
• Curricular Practical Training (CPT): Practical experience during the course.
Some employment allowed under the program rules (e.g., academic training, internships).
